from scratch: from the very beginning; leaving nothing out; with no prior knowledge; with nothing assumed - everything a beginner needs.

Digital Photography Techniques from Scratch

Dear visitor - this website is currently moving hosts and as such is experiencing some odd technical difficulties, like not really existing. It'll be up and running soon, so please check back.

Digital photography techniques are exciting and scary at the same time. Where do you start?

If you are new to digital photography, check out this page about learning photography - it'll guide you through everything on the site you'll need, in an appropriate order.

Why "from scratch"? It's a term that expresses how we all start something new. Everyone starts out a complete novice, but the help we get influences how we progress.

Professional photographers write photography books. It makes sense, right? I don't think so.

If you've been doing something for decades, you can forget what it's like to know nothing about your subject. Pros often forget to explain basic important things because they think it's obvious.

It's not always obvious, though, and it's frustrating when we're trying to learn.

I'll explain those digital photography techniques from scratch!

Mission Statement

Why does the internet need another website about photography? How is this one different?

The learning curve for getting into photography is steep - I had to buy books. My mission is to make the subject as understandable and accessible as possible.

And ultimately, I want to make it fun. This is a photography website with a personality.

About the author

I have just completed a physics degree and am now studying for a Master's degree in environmental technology.

When I was about 11, I went on holiday with a compact film camera. One day I pointed the camera and clicked over and over again, just to make the sound "a real camera makes".

I've been hooked ever since.
